About

Thomas Alban is currently in his 3rd year studying Music at Clare College, Cambridge.

His recent compositions include a setting of the Nunc Dimittis, which features on Clare College Choir's 700th-anniversary album, Reaching Farther: Clare College 1326-2026, produced by John Rutter and released by Signum Records (the album can be found here). He was also the winner of the 2025 Clare College Carol Composition Competition, having previously been shortlisted for the Bach Choir's National Carol Competition. He also wrote a 12-minute piece called First Light for string orchestra (premiered in Clare College Chapel in March 2025), and The Day is Done, a choral work premiered in a concert of twentieth-century French and English music.

As President of Clare College Music Society from 2025-26, Thomas directed the society's musical activities, organising orchestral and choral concerts and conducting works including Ravel's Ma mère l'Oye and Vaughan Williams's Five Mystical Songs. He has also been a Choral Scholar of Clare College Choir since 2024, performing regularly in services, concerts, recordings and tours. Before university, he was a chorister at King's College, Cambridge, where he sang the opening solo of Once in Royal David's City at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in 2016 and 2017.

Alongside his musical work, Thomas has a keen interest in technology and software development, particularly where these intersect with music. In 2026, he completed an internship working on Dorico, Steinberg's music notation software. He enjoys exploring the creative possibilities of both music and technology through composition, programming and independent projects.
